John Mepham asked:

Just about anyone who suffers from gout knows that they should be drinking a lot of water every day. I will come on to why in a moment but first, for any gout sufferer who does not know the basics, here they are.

A natural gout remedy, as with all gout treatments, requires the reduction of uric acid levels. The normal clinical target is a serum (blood) level of 6 mg/dL for men, less for women. Reducing uric acid to these levels often dissolves the MSU crystals which are mainly formed from uric acid. (The immune system’s reaction to these crystals is the immediate cause of pain and inflammation). Drugs such as Allopurinol (generic name) are xanthine oxidase inhibitors — Allopurinol inhibits the enzyme which is needed for a major part of the process of converting purines into uric acid in the liver, and so less uric acid is produced. Drugs such as Probenecid (generic name) and Sulfinpyrazone (generic name) aid its excretion.

Therefore, the ”trick” in curing gout is to remove uric acid. However, there are other natural ways of assisting the removal of uric acid, and just about the most popular, to judge from views of online polls I have seen, is drinking water. How does water work? Simply because a hydrated body will dilute uric acid and diluted uric acid is more likely to be excreted. This is the first reason why water use in gout treatment is so important.

Will any water do? Yes, but some kinds are better than others are. Hard water is better than soft water because it contains more minerals. So too does mineral water. Minerals help maintain the body pH at 7.0 or greater. What is pH? This is a measurement of the acid/alkaline balance of the body. A pH of 7.0 or higher means a more alkaline body; below 7.0 and its more acidic.

Water itself has a pH of 7.0 so it helps to raise the body pH to 7.0, or more when used in conjunction with other alkalizing agents. Occasionally you will see bottled water labels state this 7.0 value, just about the only product in the supermarket that states its pH value. Foods do have a pH value which means that some foods make the body more alkaline and some more acidic.

Why is a higher pH desirable for gout sufferers? Because at a higher pH (i.e. the body is more alkaline) more uric acid is likely to be excreted too. This is the second reason why gout sufferers need to drink lots of water.

There are other ways of raising pH (a diet containing lots of alkaline effect foods and less acid effect foods, alkaline water, baking soda (bicarbonate of soda), but water is just about the cheapest.

How much water a day? The quoted amount varies from 8 to 12 of 8 fl.ozs glasses a day. But perhaps the true amount for you is the amount of water you need to raise the body pH above 7.0. How can you know your pH level? pH test strips can be purchased online and delivered by mail. Type ” pH test strips” or “pH test stix” into a search box. Make sure you follow precisely the manufacturers’ instructions in the accompanying leaflet.

How can you be certain that you have met your daily water target? Counting your score of water drunk every day is boring and prone to memory lapses. So use this tip. Every evening, or early in the morning, fill a jug with 8 x 8 fl.ozs of water (64 fl.ozs). Alternatively, the amount you have decided on, such as two jugs each of 4 x 8 fl.ozs of water and 4 x 8 fl.ozs of juice; or one jug of 10 x 8 fl.ozs of water and so forth. Use this source to make your other water based drinks that count as water intake.

Use only this jug for your drinking water and other relevant beverages. If you are traveling, or drink water at a place of employment, take your water supply in another container only from this jug. When refilling the jug in the evening (or in the early morning) make sure the jug is empty. This means that you drank your daily gout diet requirement without having to count every glass.

Ouch! The remedy for your aching toe is an effective gout pain treatment. Though there is no known cure for gout yet, research is showing that a complete cure will be here soon. In the mean time, you can address your painful problem with gout homeopathy and simple lifestyle tips that many doctors are now recommending to their patients.

Though natural health and natural remedies have often been viewed as taboo in western societies, many traditional doctors have now switched from synthetic pain killers and anti inflammatories to good old fashion natural homeopathic treatments that were once viewed as quack.

However, as science leads us to understanding our body more. Simple gout pain treatment remedies have been used since the time of kings (gout is known as the disease of kings) are one of the most effective ways to treat the arthritic pain.

Grab a piece of paper because here is what you should know if you suffer from the ‘big toe’ arthritis.

Gout is all about Uric Acid

Gout has everything to deal with uric acid. Gout occurs when urate crystals gather on the affected joint. You will notice inflammation and intense pain during an attack. The uric acid crystal levels increase when your body is not able to flush the acid effectively. Uric acid can be always found in your body and is also found in many of the foods we eat.

Usually, gout is flushed out of the body through the urine. But in certain individuals, gout is caused because the body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys excrete too little uric acid.

Whatever the case, simple tips and remedies can be used to flush the uric acid naturally.

Gout natural remedies can provide pain relief during an attack. Many of the remedies are extremely simple and effective. In general, these tips will work to either flush the uric acid or neutralize the acid.

Here are some gout tips and simple remedies to try.

1. Maintain an ideal weight and drink plenty of water. Water can help you lose weight and also help the kidneys flush uric acid from the body. Dehydration breeds attacks. Drink at least 10-12 glasses of water a day.

2. Simple lifestyle tips can help too! Make sure you know what foods contain high levels of purines and restrict them from your diet. Do not drink alcohol, especially beer. You should also start eating foods with high fiber content to flush the body of impurities, toxins and uric acid.

3. Vitamin C or ascorbic acid has shown to be quite effective. While taken in high doses, vitamin C can decrease uric acid levels in the blood.

4. Folic acid has also been shown some benefits in various studies. About 600 mcg per day may inhibit xanthine oxidase, which is required for uric acid production.

5. Bromelain which is an enzyme found in pineapple is a natural anti-inflammatory. You should take 200-300 mg three times per day between meals.

6. Ouercetin has also been shown to have to have anti-inflammatory qualities. You should take this bioflavonoid along with bromelain at about the same amount.

7. Finally, we also suggest cherries because they hold loads of fiber (to flush) and they also have been shown to reduce inflammations. This popular but effective alternative remedy for gout has been handed down for thousands of years. We suggest about 8 ounces of cherries per day.

Our body’s entire metabolic process depends on an alkaline environment. When we ingest too many acidic or acid-producing foods, excess acid corrodes tissues and organs, which leads to acidosis, illness and disease. In addition, acid also provides a favorable environment for harmful bacteria and other micro organism that can damage glands and organs.

Ideal blood pH Level

The ideal blood pH level is slightly alkaline, with a normal range of 7.35 to 7.45. If the pH value moves below 6.8 or above 7.8, the cells of the body stop functioning and the human will die. Consequently, the body continually struggles to maintain its ideal pH. The question therefore always is: how do we achieve pH balance? Fresh vegetables, greens and grasses are an excellent anti-yeast and anti-fungal.

Green grasses such as barley or wheat grass are some of the lowest-calorie, lowest-sugar and most nutrient-rich foods on earth, and contain high amounts of fiber. To really give our body what it needs, nutritionists and scientists all over the world state that people need FIVE servings of vegetables per day. But where and how in our fast paced lifestyle, eating on the run, are we going to be able to do this?

Powdered & Sprouted Greens

In addition to the philosophy of alkalizing the body system with an alkaline diet to avoid acidosis of the body cells (i.e. eating as much alkaline-forming foods as you can, such as spinach, broccoli, kamut grass, kale etc., and drinking lots of alkaline water), Powdered & Sprouted Greens are designed to neutralize body acids and supply vital nutrients the body needs to produce health cells and energy. They help alkalizing, energizing and oxygenating the body cells and typically contain organically-grown green vegetables and grasses, leaves and grains sprouted for maximum cell absorption.

The Peak of a Plant’s Nutritional State

Powdered alkaline greens are harvested at the peak of the plant’s nutritional state (right after germination) and help enhance health, fitness and energy levels and contain minerals, amino acids and vitamins. The raw materials typically are tested with a mass spectrometer to make sure they contain no pesticides or toxins and are highly concentrated, using a process known as micro-ionization.

During this process the ingredients (grasses, leaves, vegetables, sprouts etc.) are broken down into smallest particles called colloids, making them easy for the body’s cells to absorb. To further improve assimilation, a high megahertz frequency is then electrically charging the particles – the higher the frequency of a food, the better it supports energy building (our body requires at least 70 megahertz to function best – burgers have a frequency of 3-7, whereas raw greens and vegetables have approximately 70-90 megahertz).

Key to Restoring Ideal pH Levels

The key to restoring our body to its ideal pH is to create a proper acid-alkaline balance. Since our body’s pH level is slightly alkaline, our diet should also reflect this. Therefore, we should ingest at least 75% of alkalizing foods, like green vegetables, and never more than 25% of neutral and acidifying foods. Eating foods that are alkaline or consuming powdered greens in addition to the diet transforms the body’s balance from dangerously acidic to slightly above neutral.
