    Not really.
    Attacks

Acutely, first line treatment should be pain relief. Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, the drugs of choice are indomethacin, other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or intraarticular glucocorticoids, administered via a joint injection.

Colchicine was previously the drug of choice in acute attacks of gout. It impairs the motility of granulocytes and can prevent the inflammatory phenomena that initiate an attack of gout. Colchicine should be taken within the first 12 hours of the attack and usually relieves the pain within 48 hours. Its main side-effects (gastrointestinal upset) can complicate its use. NSAIDs are the preferred form of analgesia for patients with gout.

Before medical help is available, some over the counter medication can provide temporary relief to the pain and swelling. NSAIDs such as ibuprofen can reduce the pain and inflammation slightly, although aspirin should not be used as it can worsen the condition. Preparation H hemorrhoidal ointment can be applied to the swollen skin to reduce the swelling temporarily. Professional medical care is needed for long term management of gout.

i find that red tart cherries or if you can find it,cherry juice works. it works best if you eat/drink as soon as you feel it flaring up.you can find frozen cherries in the grocery when they are out of season ,and health food stores and orchards are good places to find the juice.also check the internet for a list of foods to avoid.it’s not just alcohol,it can be meat drippings, gravies, shell fish etc.

For long term relief you should talk to your Dr. about seeing a nutritionist. Gout can be caused by some foods and beverages, including fish, and alcohol. Seeing a rehab therapist should help as well. There are natural vitamins, and supplements to help your body readjust its chemical production. but to know what your body is in need of your best bet is testing through your physician.

    Ice. Ibuprofen.

Cut back on red meat – don’t eat any meat at all, and eat as little protein as possible until the gout is gone. Avoid spinach (my husband finds that’s the easiest thing to do, lol). Consume products containing cherries – if you can find frozen cherries that’s even better, make lots of smoothies – 1 cup orange juice, 1 banana, 1 cup frozen cherries. Smooth together. Drink. Drink lots of water. Don’t drink alcohol or caffeine until it’s gone.

If you live near a health food store, you might be able to get cherry extract, or other natural cures (such as goutrin, available at my small town store).
